Police said the wedding party of over 40 people had left from Laldhang in Haridwar district

Twenty-five people died when an auto carrying a wedding celebration of more than 40 guests fell into the gorge of Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal region last night. 21 people were saved from the disaster relief force as well as police after an overnight rescue near the scene of the incident close to Simdi village.
“Twenty five people were found dead in the Pauri Garwhal bus accident that took place last night in the Birokhal area of Dhumakot. Police and SDRF rescued 21 people overnight; the injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals,” the state police chief Ashok Kumar told news agency ANI.

The chief of the state police has shared images of the operation that took place overnight, in which rescue crews can be seen transporting injured people to safety.
The office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the incident “heart-rending” and said his thoughts are with the families of the victims. “The bus accident in Pauri, Uttarakhand is heart-rending. In this tragic hour my thoughts are with the bereaved families. I hope those who have been injured recover at the earliest. Rescue operations are underway. All possible assistance will be provided to those affected,” the PMO tweeted, quoting the Prime Minister Modi.

State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed his condolences over the deaths of the tragic incident and said the state government is with the families of the victims.
